Media notes
Lesser Noddy trapped by Pisonia tree seeds Cousin Island. This beautiful tropical island has a mystery; why has a tree evolved which has such sticky seeds and calyx that the Lesser Noddy are regularly trapped, and die on the floor? Not a pleasant photograph, but the realism of the natural world. The tree is Pisonia grandis. This has been researched see Dispersal and Germination of Seeds of Pisonia grandis, an Indo-Pacific Tropical Tree Associated with Insular Seabird Colonies Alan E. Burger Journal of Tropical Ecology Vol. 21, No. 3 (May, 2005), pp. 263-271. Elevation: 8 m. Date added to IBC: December 16, 2017.
