Media notes
A beautiful Purple Swamphen holding food in its foot. The south-western Australian race of the Purple Swamphen (Porphyrio porphyrio bellus) is more brightly coloured than the other races found in Australia. This adult Swamphen was standing in the shallows of Lake Booragoon, south of Perth, plunging its head under water to collect the submerged corms of rushes which it then ate, holding the food in its foot. Photo Sally Robinson. Elevation: 10 m. Date added to IBC: April 26, 2019.
