A juvenile bird stretching the wing, perched in a tree. Published in HBW Volume 12 on page 683. Original HBW caption: Comfort behaviour in parids involves a range of typical strategies. All members of the family commonly preen, often shortly after bathing. Preening is undertaken using the bill, with frequent applications of oil from large uropygial gland. It is also usually interspersed with bouts of wingstretching, as demonstrated by this juvenile Rustybreasted Tit, and headscratching, which can be achieved either directly or indirectly (over the wing). Elevation: 2466 m. Date added to IBC: June 21, 2016.
