Media notes
Birds were feeding on larvae prey being captured between 10 mm and 20 mm below the surface of the water. The prey were.....swimming below the water surface and none were on or above the water surface. The birds would hover and then plunge their heads into the water to capture prey. The pool was 10 cm to 20 cm deep and approximately 5 metres by 2 metres. The water was brackish and the birds were facing into the wind. About 20 birds were feeding over the pool in this manner. Birds feeding in the same fashion have been reported from Anderson's Inlet, Warrnambool and Dandenong. All reports are from between late July and early August. The earliest report is from August 2007 and the latest July 2013. Elevation: 4 m. Date added to IBC: June 21, 2016.
