Fairly small macaw with a conspicuous yellow nape and blackish forehead. In flight shows yellowish underwings. Note the lack of a red patch on the belly. Inhabits savanna and gallery forests in the Araguaia, Pantanal, and Chaco regions; can also be found in areas of low-intensity agriculture. The flight call is a loud, rasping “raaah”.

Escapee: Exotic species known or suspected to be escaped or released, including those that have bred but don't yet fulfill the criteria for Provisional. Escapee exotics do not count in official eBird totals.
