A large gray-brown honeyeater with a long heavy bill and bluish-gray bare skin below the eye. Brown all over, but paler on the underparts. Singles, pairs, or small groups occur in forest, forest edge, and open wooded areas. Unique within range, where there are no other friarbirds. Particularly note bare facial skin. Gives a grating, repetitive call, “kwit-kwit-woo-woo,” a faster “kwit-woo,” and various harsh rasping notes.
