Identification

POWERED BY MERLIN

An entirely black mountain-dwelling drongo with a forked tail and a dark red eye. Typically found singly or in pairs within canopy or upper understory of montane forest, where it regularly accompanies mixed-species flocks. Told from the similar Sulawesi form of Spangled Drongo by its dark eye and less flared outer tail feathers. Sulawesi Drongo also prefers higher elevations. Simple song includes metallic, strident myna-like “chew” notes, often strung together, as well as harsher, lower-pitched “cheewk” notes.
