Xinjiang Ground-Jay Podoces biddulphi

Odd-looking corvid which brings to mind a ground-dwelling desert nutcracker. Pale brownish overall, with black-and-white wing and a thick black mustache which broadens and curves up towards the face. Runs swiftly, chasing down invertebrates and reptiles. Inhabits dry, open areas and expansive scrub, where it is often seen perched on an elevated vantage point such as a post or a snag. Gives a variety of calls, including a series of high, rapidly descending clattery trills and a triad of whistles.
