Identification
Large, dark francolin with a tiny range on the slopes of Mount Cameroon. There is scalloping on the underparts that is blackish in males and buff in females. Both sexes have a red bill, red legs, and red bare facial skin. Found on the ground in montane forest and in adjacent secondary habitats, at middle elevations. Usually in pairs or small groups. The common vocalization is a repeated yelping that is much less rough than most francolin vocalizations. Similar to Scaly Francolin, but more blackish overall, with red bare facial skin.
