A small, stocky, martin-like swallow that has dark blue-black upperparts, head, and chest, a narrow buffy band across the lower chest, a buffy vent, and a white chin spot and belly. In flight it shows a slightly paler rump patch. A complete enigma, known from only a single specimen found in 1984 in Port Sudan. Field reports of Petrochelidon-type swallows from Ethiopia may or may not refer to this species. It is assumed to be a resident in northeast Africa, but its habitat preferences, vocalizations, and all elements of its biology remain unknown.
