Identification

POWERED BY MERLIN

Rare flycatcher with a scattered distribution in outlying ridges of the eastern Andes, the tepui region of northern South America, and several other remote mountain ranges. Inhabits cloud forest, often in areas with sandy soil. Combination of brown upperparts, rusty wingbars, and faintly streaked yellowish underparts separate it from other small flycatchers in range. Male has a reddish-orange crown patch that is almost always concealed. Gives a variety of calls including squeaks and rapid trills.
