POWERED BY MERLIN

Small, chunky bird; males are black with a crested red head. Females are olive-green, paler below, with a short crest. Found in humid forest and old second growth. The song is a fast trill; males also make clicking sounds with their wings at a lek. The similar female of White-bearded Manakin lacks the crest and has orange legs.
