A medium-sized honeyeater of montane forest of the Foja mountains. Dark gray plumage with pale edged feathers, not significantly paler on the throat and only slightly paler on the belly. A large, orange patch of bare facial skin, that extends down in a wattle. Like closely-related species, feeds mainly on fruit. Not particularly shy and often perches out in the open. Similar species do not co-occur. Unusually quiet.
