James Eaton | the Internet Bird Collection
James Eaton is based in Southeast Asia, where he is joint owner of Birdtour Asia. He leads several tours a year throughout South-East Asia, China and the Indian Subcontinent. The culmination of his field-time has resulted in the discovery of several undescribed species, and is lead-author of the Lynx field guide, Birds of the Indonesian Archipelago. James has a PhD in social sciences, having studied taxonomically cryptic avian species of the region and their conservation status. A keen conservationist, with a particular interest in trying to put an end to the illegal bird trade in Asia by surveying and monitering bird markets.
James has a keen interest in bird photography, especially photographing the many rare, little known species in the Oriental region, most of which can be viewed at Oriental Bird Images, and he has also some photographs published in the Handbook of the Birds of the World.
Before 2014 he used a Sony DCS-W90 for digiscoping with his Swarovski scope, between 2011 and 2017 he used a Canon 7D1/7D2 with the Swarovski ATX digiscoping set-up or Canon DOII 400mm f4. From 2018 he now uses Olympus OM-D M1 mkII with 300mm Zuiko f4 lens.
