Dubi Shapiro | the Internet Bird Collection

Dubi Shapiro

My passion for birds, nature, conservation and photography was sparked at the age of 9 by watching the incredible raptor migration over Israel, where I had a good fortune of growing up and gaining an appreciation for nature and the great outdoors. My first forays into photography began at the age of 11 when I received my grandfather’s 30 year old Nikkormat film camera. I developed a more serious interest in photography in 2004 digiscoping and soon after switching to my first DSLR which is a slippery slope..
Rare, elusive and skulking birds in remote areas in south America, Africa and tiny remote islands are my favorites, for me it’s the perfect blend of outdoor adventure, challenge, and pursuit.

I have been privileged to photograph some of the worlds rarest birds in remarkable wilderness regions but also get to witness how humans are screwing up the planet and I hope to raise awareness through my photography. I love to journey to unknown lands.  I am an ‘opportunistic’ photographer. I don’t sit in hides for hours , I’d rather explore around and photograph.

Over the years a number of my photos have won international competitions and a large number have been featured in books and magazines including HBW, Birdlife International,Birding, Birdwatching, Neotropical birding & BBC Wildlife magazine.
I now live In Los Angles with my wife and young son, and I hope these images brings you as much pleasure as I had taking them.
