An African Scops Owl asleep in Nyala Tree. The African Scops Owl (Otus senegalensis) is a tiny owl not much longer than a sparrow. These owls prefer savanna woodlands and forests and are often found in the Restcamps in Kruger Park. African Scops Owls mainly eat insects by will also take small geckos, frogs and rodents. This bird was dozing during the day in a large Nyala Tree (Xanthocercis zambesiaca) in the Timbavati Picnic Spot in Kruger National Park. Elevation: 287 m. Date added to IBC: June 21, 2018.
