Media notes
An Australian Hobby perched, eating a small bird. The desert and north-western race of the Australian Hobby (Falco longipennis murchisonianus) is paler than its more southerly distributed counterpart. The species is found in a wide range of habitats throughout Australia, preferring open country with scattered trees such as watercourses, and urban areas. Hobbies catch aerial prey, particularly small birds, but also take insects and insectivorous bats. This Hobby had captured a small bird, probably a Tree Martin (Petrochelidon nigricans), that it was eating while perched in the swaying limbs of a eucalyptus tree. Elevation: 7 m. Date added to IBC: October 15, 2019.
