Australian Pelicans fishing with Common Bottlenose Dolphins on the Canning River. Perth’s Swan-Canning Estuary is a jewel of the city and is its aesthetic centrepiece. The estuary is relatively healthy, and supports large numbers of waterbirds including Australian Pelicans, Terns, Silver Gulls, Eastern Ospreys, several Cormorant species and wading birds. There are also plenty of fish and pods of Common Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops truncatus) are often seen hunting them. We caught this pod of Bottlenose Dolphins fishing with a flock of Australian Pelicans near Mount Henry Bridge on the Canning River. Great Cormorants, Little Pied Cormorants, Crested and Caspian Terns were also making the most of the opportunity to catch mullet flushed by the Dolphins. The frenetic activity went on for over 40 minutes. Elevation: 0 m. Date added to IBC: July 19, 2018.
