An adult Blacksmith Lapwing preening then taking off. Blacksmith Lapwings (Vanellus armatus) are the most frequently seen Lapwing in Kruger National Park. It is mostly seen in small family groups close to water or in short grassland where it feeds on aquatic and terrestrial invertebrates. This Blacksmith Lapwing was standing in shallow water at the Sabie River low-level crossing near Skukuza in Kruger National Park, preening then taking off. Elevation: 287 m. Date added to IBC: April 20, 2019.
