Crested Francolin male calling. The Crested Francolin (Dendroperdix sephaena) is a common partridge-like bird from sub-Saharan Africa. Crested Francolins are mostly seen in family groups, with both parents caring for their precocial chicks. They mostly eat seeds, corms, fruits and berries but also take a wide range of insects particularly in summer when they have chicks. Most Francolin species have harsh calls – as heard here!. Elevation: 287 m. Date added to IBC: April 21, 2018.
