Male Crested Francolin on log. The Crested Francolin (Dendroperdix sephaena) is a common partridge-like bird from sub-Saharan Africa. Crested Francolins are mostly seen in family groups, with both parents caring for their precocial chicks. They mostly eat seeds, corms, fruits and berries but also take a wide range of insects particularly in summer when they have chicks. The sexes are similar, but only the is male larger than the female and only the male has spurs, as can be seen here. Elevation: 287 m. Date added to IBC: April 21, 2018.
