A Crimson-breasted Gonolek (or Shrike) on the ground eating bread. The gorgeous Crimson-breasted Shrike (or Gonolek) (Laniarius atrococcineus) is a reasonably common resident species in semi-arid thornveld in southern Africa. That said, they are often difficult to photograph because they tend to lurk in dense, twiggy vegetation. This bird was on the ground at Manyane Resort in Pilanesberg National Park eating a discarded piece of bread. Elevation: 1089 m. Date added to IBC: February 13, 2019.
