A Smooth-billed Ani perching amongst leaves. The Groove-billed Ani (Crotophaga ani) is a tropical cuckoo that prefers open country, feeding on a mixed diet of seeds, insects and fruit. Groove-billed Anis live in small groups of up to five breeding pairs. They jointly defend a territory and lay their eggs communally in a single nest, where all group members care for the chicks. This Ani was perched in a shrub on the edge of 101 Road near Iguazu National Park in Argentina. Elevation: 259 m. Date added to IBC: February 17, 2019.
Observation details
IBC scientific name: Crotophaga sulcirostris. A Smooth-billed Ani perching amongst leaves.
