Media notes
An Imperial Shag with two large chicks in the nest. Imperial Shags (or Cormorants) (Leucocarbo atriceps albiventer) nest in large rookeries, often together with Southern Rockhopper Penguins in the Falkland Islands. The species is colonial and monogamous, and their tower-like nests of mud, guano and vegetation are spaced just out of pecking range from their neighbours! Imperial Cormorants lay up to five eggs – usually two or three, and the rapidly growing chicks soon become too large for the nest bowl and begin spilling over the edge. Elevation: 20 m. Date added to IBC: February 5, 2019.
