An Eastern Osprey stops a thieving Australian Raven from stealing its fish. Eastern Ospreys (Pandion haliaetus cristatus), are common around the Peel-Harvey Estuary south of Perth in Western Australia. This immature Osprey had caught a large fish, probably a mullet, in the estuary and was eating it on the stump of a Melaleuca tree in a wetland next to the estuary. Suddenly an Australian Raven (Corvus coronoides) flew in, wanting to steal the fish. The Osprey refused to release the fish, holding it firmly in its right foot while it flapped its wings and screamed at the Raven. After a minute or two, the Raven gave up and flew off while the Osprey resumed eating in peace. To view the full interaction please see my YouTube post: https://youtu.be/qzpsuHwh6vE. Elevation: 0 m.
