This is a Carrion Crow Nick and not a Rook.

Thanks Greg.

I wondered about this one too and did check it with the UK bird Identification facebook group because there were Hooded Crows (Corvus corone cornix) around. I was told that Carrion Crow (Corvus corone corone) is not found in Ireland. I also saw the juvenile perching near this bird https://www.hbw.com/ibc/photo/rook-corvus-frugilegus/close-adult-bird

I'll take it down if you are sure I've got it wrong

Thanks

Nick

Having looked again, I think your original identification is correct Nick and it is a juvenile Rook.  The extension of feathering along the top of the bill and the grey feathering developing on the face when viewed front on prove it.  It looked very short billed at first glance and maybe I need to look more closely at juvenile Rooks in the future!

No worries Greg. I found it a tricky one so I was glad to have you taking a second look at it!
