Adult male Shore Plover settling in to roost on Plimmerton beach at high tide. This bird was part of a flock of 24 birds,.....the largest number of these birds seen on the NZ mainland for over a century, representing 15% of the world population.Rare Endemic to New Zealand and Chatham Islands, total population approx 150 birds. Captive breeding and reintroduction programme has help stabilise the population. Some birds relocated to predator free islands where they have bred successfully, some juvenile and post-breeding adult birds known to disperse to mainland. Elevation: 1 m.
