Short-billed or Carnaby's Cockatoo female preening. Short-billed or Carnaby's Black Cockatoos (Zanda latirostris) are endemic to south-western Australia, and are endangered. They fly in flocks ranging from a few birds to hundreds, while making their beautiful, distinctive call. They feed on a wide range of native seeds, including from Eucalypts and Banksias. They also eat the seeds of introduced pines. This female is perching in Yellow-flowered Gum, Eucalyptus woodwardii, in our garden on Christmas morning, preening. Elevation: 24 m. Date added to IBC: December 31, 2017.
