Media notes
A pair of Southern Black Tits feeding on caterpillars. Southern Black Tits (Melaniparus niger) are engaging little birds that occur in almost any south-eastern and eastern African habitat with broad-leaved trees. The plumage of the sexes is similar, but females are slightly duller, with greyer underparts. Pairs stay in touch with their buzzing contact calls. Southern Black Tits feed mainly on caterpillars and other small invertebrates, but they also take some fruits and nectar. This pair was feeding on caterpillars on Combretum mossambicense flowers on the H4-1 Loop, Skukuza to Lower Sabie Road in Kruger National Park. Elevation: 287 m. Date added to IBC: August 4, 2019.
