A Southern Caracara perching and calling on a windy clifftop. The Southern Caracara (Caracara plancus) is a large, common member of the falcon family with a wide distribution through eastern and southern South America and the Falkland Islands. Southern Caracaras occur in a wide range of habitats, and are highly opportunistic feeders, eating carrion, refuse, and live prey of many varieties. This adult was perched on a clifftop in a high wind at Cape Dolphin in East Falkland, calling occasionally. Elevation: 7 m. Date added to IBC: March 5, 2019.
