Splendid Fairy-wren eclipse male perching in wind. The male Splendid Fairy-wren (Malurus splendens) is a living jewel of a bird when in full breeding plumage. This ringed male is in eclipse plumage with his blue tail and wing feathers. He was perching in a strong wind on a dead branch in a samphire marsh at Coodanup on the eastern side of Peel Inlet, Western Australia. Elevation: 0 m. Date added to IBC: July 2, 2018.
