A Whistling Kite perching and preening. The Whistling Kite (Haliastur sphenurus) is a medium-sized raptor with a distinctive descending whistling call found over most of Australia. Whistling Kites are common near Perth, particularly near waterways with tall trees. This bird was perching in the dead crown of a Marri tree (Corymbia, formerly Eucalyptus calophylla) – it preened as it sunned itself on a clear winter’s day. Elevation: 0 m. Date added to IBC: June 16, 2018.
