Introduction

Perhaps one of the most memorable things about this bird is its name! What exactly is the color of bran? Well, most populations of Bran-colored Flycatcher are largely warm brown above, an earthy brown that certainly reminds one of cereals. In pattern the warm brown is even across the face, crown, and upperparts although there are two distinct warm brown wingbars and tertial edgings present on a darker wing. Below, these birds are off-white, with broad but blurry streaking on the breast that extends to the flanks. This species is widespread in South America, but absent from dense forested areas such as the Amazon Basin. It is a species of edge, second growth, riparian forests, and dry forest.
