Systematics History

Sometimes considered conspecific with G. modesta and G. igata. However, considerably larger, and more yellow on belly, as well as being whiter on breast and throat than either (total score 5) (1); vocal differences also thought likely. Monotypic.

Subspecies

Prior to colonization of the island by rats as a result of a shipwreck in 1918, the species was considered abundant. It could not, however, be found on a visit in 1936 and has not been seen since.
