Groove-billed Toucanet Aulacorhynchus sulcatus Scientific name definitions

Groove-billed Toucanets live in humid montane forests, old second growth woodlands, and around gardens. Their diet consists of fruit, regurgitated seeds, and the eggs and chicks of other birds. The Groove-billed Toucanet is mostly green with a white throat and blue around the eye; the bills of the three subspecies vary considerably in coloration. These toucanets forage in pairs or small groups at all levels of the forest, but are most often seen at higher levels. Sometimes they can be seen flying behind one another in a single file line, but they tend to avoid crossing large, open gaps. Sometimes heard before seen, Groove-billed Toucanets sing by giving a nasally rank for up to half a minute.
