Ochre-striped Antpitta Grallaria dignissima Scientific name definitions

Ochre-striped Antpitta is one of only two truly lowland species of Grallaria antpittas; it inhabits low lying swampy areas and stream banks in terra firme forest of the western Amazon, in eastern Ecuador, northeastern Peru, and extreme southern Colombia. Ochre-striped Antpitta is replaced by the even rarer and less often seen Elusive Antpitta (Grallaria eludens) south of the Amazon River in southeastern Peru and adjacent western Brazil. Ochre-striped Antpitta is a particularly long legged and short tailed Grallaria, and is characterized by a rufous throat and breast, and a very distinctive black-on-white streaking on the lower belly and flanks. It is most frequently detected by its far carrying, low, mournful two note song. Ochre-striped Antpitta is sympatric with Thrush-like Antpitta (Myrmothera campanisona) in most or all of its range, but Thrush-like Antpitta s much smaller, lacks any rufous on the breast, and has a very different voice.
