Green-throated Tanager Stilpnia argyrofenges Scientific name definitions

Also known as Straw-backed Tanager, Green-throated Tanager occurs very locally and apparently disjunctly in Ecuador, northern Peru, and north central Bolivia; two subspecies are recognized. Both sexes possess a straw-colored back and a green throat, but males are further distinctive in having a black cap and underparts from the breast down, as well as blackish wings. Females, in contrast, have dark green wings, a dusky green cap and nape, and grayish posterior underparts. Green-throated Tanager usually is encountered in pairs, and at least occasionally joins mixed-species flocks, foraging high in the trees, but occasionally lower and it sometimes visits clearings.
