José Luis Copete

José Luis Copete has worked at Lynx Edicions on the HBW since 2002, mainly on bibliographic aspects and the organisation and selection of photographs, from HBW-08, the first Passerine volume, onwards. Previously he participated in a number of research projects at the Museum of Zoology, Barcelona, on such species as the Siskin (Carduelis spinus), Serin (Serinus serinus) and Blackcap (Sylvia atricapilla), among others. Papers resulting from recent work on owls and Phylloscopus warblers are currently in preparation and he expects to conduct further work on the latter group. He has also worked since 2008 on the Handbook of Western Palearctic Birds , whose first volume, Passerines, is expected in 2015, as well as on the preparation of a monograph on wheatears (Oenanthe spp) in collaboration with H. Shirihai, M. Schweizer and others. He has been birding in Africa, Asia, South America and Australia as well as within the Western Palearctic. Recording of bird sounds interests him more than photography, since, as he says, on trips there is usually some friend taking pictures!
