Introduction

The Olive-crowned Yellowthroat occurs in two disjunct populations consisting of three subspecies; the more northerly population ranging from eastern Honduras south to western Panama, while the southern population is found on the Pacific slope of western Colombia and western Ecuador. It has been suggested that the three taxa involved might be better treated as separate species. In plumage, both sexes of the Olive-crowned Yellowthroat broadly recall the Common Yellowthroat (Geothlypis trichas), although males lack a gray upper border to the face mask, and both sexes possess more uniformly yellow underparts and brighter green upperparts. Despite its fairly wide range, little is known of its natural history.
