Taxonomy

French: Tinamou noir German: Schwarztinamu Spanish: Tinamú negro
Taxonomy:

Tinamus osgoodi

Conover

, 1949,

Cuzco, Peru

.

Phenotypic analysis suggested that this species should be moved to Crypturellus#R, but combined analysis of morphological and genetic data confirmed correct placement in Tinamus#R. Races geographically well separated but show limited obvious phenotypic divergence. Two subspecies recognized. These are geographically far apart, inhabit different climatic regimes and show some differences in vocalizations, so that their subspecific status needs further evaluation#R
