Blue-breasted Parrot (Pionus reichenowi)

French: Pione à poitrine bleue German: Blaubrustpapagei Spanish: Loro pechiazul

Pionias Reichenowi

, 1884,

northern Brazil or Peru (latter in error, possibly for Pará)

Hitherto considered conspecific with P. menstruus, but differs in its darker blue head and neck (2); green-shot blue vs green belly (2); fairly large yellow-pink vs small bright red mark on upper mandible (3); no pink or hint of pink in breast (ns[2]); wing-coverts much more extensively and brightly golden-bronze (ns[2]). Proposed form cyanescens (together with its suggested replacement, chlorocyanescens) is a synonym of reichenowi. Monotypic.
