Until recently treated as conspecific with G. galbanus. Isolated population in Simao, in S Yunnan, described as race simaoensis on basis of yellowish-grey breastband, but this character sometimes present in Jiangxi population. Treated as monotypic.


NE Jiangxi (Wuyuan area), in E China. Probably extinct in Yunnan (Simao region), where not recorded since 1956#R.
