Bornean Partridge (Arborophila hyperythra)

French: Torquéole de Bornéo German: Borneobuschwachtel Spanish: Arborófila de Borneo
Other common names: Bornean Hill-partridge, Red-breasted Hill-partridge, Kinabalu Hill-partridge (for non-recognized form erythrophrys)

Bambusicola hyperythra

, 1879,

Lawas River, Borneo

Kinabalu population, separated as race erythrophrys (with supercilium, face and throat much brighter rufous, male with blackish chin and upper throat#R), has been considered to merit treatment as a separate species; however, NHMUK possesses material from Kinabalu showing characters of both forms, suggesting that plumage differences may be age-related, and erythrophrys not recognized by most recent authors#R#R, a decision followed here. Monotypic.

Mountains of NC Borneo (N as far as Mt Kinabalu).
