Kinabalu [lat. 6°05’ N, long. 116°30’ E], north Borneo.
Until recently considered conspecific with A. ochraceus, but molecular work#R suggests surprisingly different relationship (as sister to A. bres). Moreover, differs from A. ochraceus in its chestnut vs ochreish vent (3); dull grey-brown vs pale buffy-brown (or yellowy-brown in sumatranus) underparts (2); stronger chestnut tinge to outer vanes of primaries and on tail (1); shorter tail (at least 1). Vocal differences also reported#R. Two subspecies recognized.
