Family Typical Antbirds (Thamnophilidae)

Least Concern

Collared Antshrike (Thamnophilus bernardi)

French: Batara de Bernard German: Fleckengesicht-Ameisenwürger Spanish: Batará collarejo

Tamnophilus [sic] Bernardi

, 1844,

Guayaquil, Guayas, Ecuador

Previously placed in Sakesphorus, but genetic analysis shows that it belongs in Thamnophilus, where closest to T. bridgesi and T. atrinucha#R. Formerly included T. shumbae as a race (see that species). Some plumage differences among Pacific-slope populations are inconstant and others appear to be clinal; no diagnostic differences discernible for proposed races piurae (Piura, in NW Peru) and cajamarcae (Cajamarca, in NW Peru). Monotypic.

WC & SW Ecuador (Manabí, Guayas including Puna I, El Oro, Loja) and NW & NC Peru (Pacific slope in Tumbes and Piura S to N Ancash).
