Introduction

Very little is known about the basic life history of Ecuadorian Piculet. This small woodpecker inhabits a small geographic range where it occupies dry and semi-deciduous forests, cacti and scrub-filled arid areas, and lower humid montane forests. These piculets are brownish above with extensive barring below, and both males and females have a black cap spotted with white. They forage in the lower strata but specific information about their dietary preferences is not yet known. Among their vocalizations are high pitched sweet notes.
