Legend Overview
Introduction
Golden Vireo is endemic to western Mexico, where it is found from southern Sonora south to Oaxaca. Three subspecies are generally recognised, of which one is confined to the Tres Marias Islands, off Nayarit; the three differ in overall color tones, especially the depth of the yellow below. The plumage is principally green above and yellowish below, with the most striking feature being the bold yellow supercilium. Overall, Golden Vireo is found from sea level to at least 1900 m, and occurs in a reasonably wide variety of wooded and bushy habitats, where it may occasionally be found in mixed-species flocks. The species’ song is a typically loud, and frequently given series of chu-chu-chu-chu notes, with nasal scolds uttered in alarm.
