Until recently considered conspecific with Z. chrysolaemus, but differs in its lack of or vestigial white eyering (3); all green vs some black on forehead and/or lores (3); brighter yellow-green upperparts (1)#R. Proposed race rothschildi (described from Gebroeders Mts, in Weyland Range), attributed to birds from Weyland Mts in W part of species’ range and Adelbert Mts in NE, may be hybrid or intergrade between this species and Z. chrysolaemus. Monotypic.
