Family Leafbirds (Chloropseidae)

Least Concern

Greyish-crowned Leafbird (Chloropsis lazulina)

Taxonomy

French: Verdin à calotte grise German: Lazulibrust-Blattvogel Spanish: Verdín ventrinaranja oriental
Taxonomy:

Phyllornis lazulina

Swinhoe

, 1870,

Tai-ping-sze, central Hainan

.

Until recently considered conspecific with C. hardwickii, but differs genetically#R and also morphologically, by its glaucous-grey vs yellowish-green crown in male (2); indigo vs black breast in male (ns[2]); cobalt-blue (and seemingly less visible, often concealed) vs iridescent pale turquoise “shoulders” in male (2); all-green vs yellow central underparts (upper belly to undertail-coverts) in female (3). Reportedly intergrades with C. hardwickii in N Laos, possibly also in SW China; research on contact zone(s) needed. Population in SC Vietnam (including Da Lat Plateau), currently included in race melliana, may represent a separate, as yet undescribed race; further study required. Two subspecies recognized.
