Mountain Avocetbill Opisthoprora euryptera Scientific name definitions

Mountain Avocetbill is a forest hummingbird from the Andes of Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. The species is rare and local in upper elevation forests and dense roadside vegetation. Mountain Avocetbill has a short black bill that is sharply upturned at the tip, with copper crown, green upperparts, and dull streaked gray underparts, with blackish flight feathers. Mountain Avocetbill usually is seen feeding alone at small, tubular flowers in low dense vegetation, but otherwise it is very poorly known.
